What is the type of paint you use on your trunks? Basic interior latex, or hydrolized lime?
they use Gypsum + water + salt, after a well mixed in a bowl you paint the trunks. I grow up fig trees.
I do not understand how having bare dirt between trees is healthy for the environment or for the fig trees. This is not natural. If a grass median does not interfere with the tree roots, then adding subsoil biodiversity should be a benefit. Otherwise, you are reducing acres and acres of living soil to the description in your title - nothing but DIRT. You want something for your kids? Improve the soil, not just the bulk fig harvest.
